How to read tour ratings like an operator
We live in Playa and run a tour company ourselves, so here is how we look at reviews before we recommend anything. Use the same checks on any tour you are considering.
- Volume beats a perfect score. A 4.7 from 700 guests tells you more than a 5.0 from 12. That is why every tour here has at least 100 reviews.
- Read the newest reviews first. Boats, guides and owners change. What guests said last month matters more than what they said three years ago.
- Look for patterns in the low reviews. One bad day happens to everyone. The same complaint again and again (late pickups, crowded boats, rushed stops) is a warning.
- Check who the tour is for. A party catamaran and a quiet snorkel sail can both be 4.8 and still be wrong for you. Our verdict says who each one suits.
- Look at guest photos. They show the real boat, the real group size and the real water, not the brochure.
